When thinking about buying your next pair of quality sunglasses, materials like plastic or metal are probably some of the more familiar materials, but have you ever thought about wood? Wood has some unique features you don’t typically find with other materials like keeping cool on the face in summer and warm in winter, it’s a natural characteristic of wood.
Wooden sunglasses have been gaining a lot of popularity over the last number of years. Depending on personal taste, a pair of sunglasses may be made of an entirely wooden frame to only a small portion of the frame being made from wood. Wooden sunglasses are not made from only one type either. Although Bamboo is an affordable a favorite choice of wood for many manufacturers, there are many other types of wood available too such as laminates, Rosewood and even Mahogany depending on your budget.
Warm in Winter, Cool in Summer
Wood is a natural insulator due to air pockets within the cellular structure. As mentioned before, this keeps your wooden frames warm in winter and cool in summer. Everyone knows what it’s like to pick up a pair of sunglasses that have been sitting on the dash of your car while you’ve been shopping or attending an appointment. The inside of a car can reach 200 degrees F or 93 degrees C with the windows up. You hop back into your stifling hot car, pick up your shades and, yeow!, singe the sides of your head with the arms of the sunglasses, not so with wood! There are a lot of other reasons not to leave your favorite pair of sunglasses inside of a hot car, but you get the point.
Concerned about the environment, wooden sunglasses are about as eco-friendly as you’re going to find. Most plastic and acetate frames are made from oil, wooden frames come from trees and is naturally recyclable. Not all wooden sunglasses are made 100% of wood and do use plastics or acetate for a portion of the frame, but minimizing your use of plastics and metals is still a good thing for those wanting to use environmentally friendly products.
They Look Great
Natural wood tones go with everything and they come is just about every style you could ever want, whether you’re looking for a sporty look, or a classic aviator style. Because no two trees are exactly alike, every pair of wooden sunglasses are also as unique as the trees they come from. Everyone likes quality wood products and the natural look of the deep wood grain running through your new pair of wooden sunglasses is sure to please.
